Land Transportation Office โ Region VI (LTO-6) has a simple message for motorists whoโve already received license plates but havenโt stuck them on: do it now โ or risk fines.
Speaking after the agency’s flag ceremony, Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II said the office has bent over backwards to get plates into peopleโs hands โ even delivering to remote barangays โ yet many owners still fail or refuse to affix them. He echoed the directive of LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II that plates must be installed immediately upon receipt.
โThe plate is a basic requirement and a condition for registration renewal,โ Geduspan said, highlighting complaints from motorists who later claimed the LTO lacked compassion after being fined โ in one case, barely two weeks after receiving a plate.
To make compliance easier, LTO-6 officers and staff have gone beyond the counters. Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu led teams to motorcycle dealers โ even installing plates on repossessed units โ while district and extension offices staged door-to-door and community distribution drives.
Still, the numbers worry officials. District chiefs say that for every 10 unregistered motorcycles issued plates, only one owner actually completes registration renewal. Since the intensified drive began in April, LTO-6โs New Registration Unit reports more than 70,000 motor plates have been distributed across the region.
โWe are doing our part in expediting the release of plates โ you should do yours in attaching them,โ Director Geduspan urged motorists.
Motorists who have received but not yet affixed their plates are being reminded to install them immediately to avoid penalties and keep their registrations valid.
