LTO Revokes Driver’s License of Marilaque ‘Superman Stunt’ Survivor
The LTO’s decision aligns with the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan, a Department of Transportation (DOTr) initiative aimed at reducing road accidents by 35% by 2028.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has officially revoked the driver’s license of Rico Akmad Buyawan, a survivor of the viral Marilaque Road “Superman stunt” incident, citing his unfitness to operate a motor vehicle due to reckless and dangerous behavior.

The decision, announced by LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II, follows an investigation into the January 8 accident that occurred in Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, along the Marilaque Road. Mendoza emphasized that a driver’s license is a privilege that demands responsibility and strict adherence to road safety.
“This should serve as a lesson to all motorists, especially motorcycle riders, that public roads are not places for such stunts, as they endanger the lives of others,” Mendoza said.
Details of the Incident
The incident, captured in a viral video, showed Buyawan and fellow motovlogger John Louie Arguelles performing a dangerous motorcycle stunt. Moments later, Buyawan’s motorcycle collided with Arguelles, resulting in the latter’s death. The crash also injured at least six bystanders who were resting near the road.
Based on an investigation by LTO-CALABARZON, led by Regional Director Elmer Decena, Buyawan was found guilty of reckless driving, allowing an unauthorized person to Operate a Motor Vehicle. The LTO subsequently revoked Buyawan’s license, deeming him unfit to drive.
The LTO’s decision aligns with the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan, a Department of Transportation (DOTr) initiative aimed at reducing road accidents by 35% by 2028.
In support of this goal, the LTO has intensified its “Stop Road Crash” campaign, promoting responsible driving through education, training, and information dissemination.
The agency hopes that this case serves as a warning to all road users to prioritize safety and exercise responsibility when operating vehicles.
